Press Release BILT PROMOTES 5,000 INDIAN TREE FARMERS WITH BUSINESS CALL TO ACTION INITIATIVE New Delhi, India, 2 June 2010 - Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT), an Avantha Group company and India's largest pulp and Paper Company, today announced that it is joining the Business Call to Action (BCtA) with its commitment to promote the economic and environmental sustainability of 5,000 low-income pulpwood tree farmers in two states in India. The commitment to the BCtA, a global partnership of business leaders that apply their core business expertise and technology to tackle poverty, will promote inclusive growth and sustainable development as well as contribute to the Millennium Development Goals, eight internationally-agreed goals which seek to alleviate poverty.

Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills Ltd commences Paper Machine 6 (PM 6) commercial production at its Unit in Rajahmundry

Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills Ltd (APPM), one of India's largest pulp and paper producers today successfully started commercial production from Paper Machine 6 (PM 6) at its Unit APPM in Rajahmundry. Currently, the Voith made machine imported from Salach, Germany has a paper production capacity of 67,000 Metric Tons per annum of UFS (Uncoated Free Sheet) and Copier Grades. However, with some modifications, the machine can be scaled up to manufacture an additional 20,000 Metric Tons per annum. With the startup of this machine, the company will now have close to 250,000 Metric Tons of Pulp and Paper manufacturing capacity.

Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Ltd (HNG), one of the frontrunners in the Indian packaging industry with more than 60% dominant market share in glass packaging and a turnover of Rs 1500 crore, today signed a joint venture with Belgium based OMCO International NV, world's leading glass mould manufacturers. According to the venture, OMCO and HNG will have a 50:50 shareholding pattern and will jointly set up and operate mould manufacturing facilities in India under the name of OMCO HNG Engineering Ltd. for designing, manufacturing, marketing and sales of moulds for glass packaging products like beverages, liquor, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic use.

Metso will supply a new cooking plant and brown stock washing equipment for bagasse based mill Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd., situated in the province of Tamil Nadu in India. The modernized brown stock process, which will replace two minor existing brown stock lines, will be taken into operation in early 2010. The value of the order is close to EUR 14 million (Rs 92 crores) and it will be included in Metso Paper´s orders received.
